Lifesavers with Pride, Inc (LWP), was established in 2006 to promote the inclusive and welcoming nature within surf lifesaving, and to demonstrate the progressive attitudes within Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) to the gay and lesbian community. We now have over 400 members from over 20 clubs from all over Australia. Our primary objectives are to:

• Provide support to gay and lesbian lifesavers and assist clubs to provide a supportive environment, and
• Promote lifesaving with the gay and lesbian community and promote lifesaving’s core values, especially inclusion.

Through highlighting the progressive nature of lifesaving as a healthy, social and welcoming activity, we provide support to gay and lesbian members; provide assistance to clubs with issues around acceptance; and promote lifesaving as a worthwhile endeavour for gays and lesbians by providing a conduit between the two communities.
